180 pages; about 150 photographs, all black and white, shot in the 1940s and 1950s. Gordon Parks, Esther Bubley, John Vachon produced most of the photos having been hired by Roy Stryker who was managing a Standard Oil project to document the role of oil in everyday life. Essentially, Stryker and the photographers went their own way and they produced a treasure. Okrent's text is commentary on the subjects in the photos and their lives then and since. Highly recommended.
